Monster Legacy moving out

Dear readers,

Back when I first conceived this blog, I decided to host it on Blogspot due to lack of better knowledge on the matter. It all worked smoothly at first; but as the blog got more complex, glitches and bugs began to arise -- coming to a point where even writing and editing posts posed a considerable number of issues.

For this very reason, Monster Legacy is soon going to move on another server -- WordPress, as it was very positively suggested to me.

You do not have to worry for the articles or the image galleries: every important post here will be transferred to the new blog, in what will be a better format and view.

It would be pointless to repost there old news. As such, this blogspot address will keep all the news about dvd and blu-ray releases and upcoming films. The new blog will only feature news published since its creation date.

When all the articles and galleries are transferred, I will leave here a final post featuring a link to the new address.

As always, stay tuned.

TIP on Galleries

When downloading the images from my galleries, be sure to check out the URL of an image. In all Image URLs there is a part between bars with a 's' and a number. Change it to a high value to get the Full-sized image.

Example: The following image is taken from the Sammael Monster Gallery --

This is the URL of the image:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBaUcL9GPub3yvtT9GrMKJg-O2mdxyl-B4l5ZVfa7k4i1HVbt8CYkePChG4nfsF-18Vkw92dZttBoONBvOlj_TnY3rsgxc-w_LbD9-ZDae3EPa93PuMgbHCsboYbdRt2a4bMiDsLVLhxoN/s1600/Sammaelsetcontrol.jpg

In the highlighted part, change the '1600' numerical value with another number, preferably above 3000. You should obtain a URL similar to this:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBaUcL9GPub3yvtT9GrMKJg-O2mdxyl-B4l5ZVfa7k4i1HVbt8CYkePChG4nfsF-18Vkw92dZttBoONBvOlj_TnY3rsgxc-w_LbD9-ZDae3EPa93PuMgbHCsboYbdRt2a4bMiDsLVLhxoN/s3000/Sammaelsetcontrol.jpg

The last URL will lead to the full-sized image:

Apply this to the images that are 1200px wide or higher in the URL preview, and you will be able to save them in their original size. Enjoy!

Happy New Year from Monster Legacy!

My best wishes for a great 2013 to all my readers. Let's hope for some good, monstrous surprises.
This year we should see:
  • The golden and magnificent Dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug;
  • Pacific Rim with all of its glorious giant Monsters;
  • Writhing creatures in the third chapter of the Riddick series.
Among, possibly, other good monstrous surprises. Best wishes!

So it is... Hallowe'en right?

I usually am not too keen on the recurrence of Hallowe'en, for one reason or the other -- but it is at least one more excuse to watch a Monster Movie or two.
And you are reading Monster Legacy, right? You are here for the cool pictures, right?
Let's see five neat production stills...

Recognize it? It is the mid-transformation Werewolf puppet created by Cinovation Studios -- headed by Rick Baker -- back in 1981 for An American Werewolf in London.

One of the full-sized animatronic creatures by Steve Johnson FX for Ghostbusters (I think this is good old Vinz Clortho).

The Distorted Rabbit Monster from Twilight Zone: The Movie, created by none other than Rob Bottin!

The spectacular make-up on Gary Oldman by Greg Cannom for Bram Stoker's Dracula. According to one of the FX men, Gary Oldman really sold the make-up with all his stomping around.

 And our last bugger is the Gillman from Monster Squad, created as a suit worn by Tom Woodruff Jr. (still his favourite character he has ever played!) by Stan Winston Studios.

Monster Legacy

So what's this blog about? Monsters. Monsters have always been a great part of human history: horrendous creatures exorcizing our fears, expressing ideals and metaphors, inhabiting our remote legends. This blog will focus on their presence in film and literature media (without, of course, excluding posts regarding folklore creatures), their design, role and characterization. The blog will eventually feature making of essays (sort... of), articles regarding upcoming features, film reviews and a bunch more. Stay tuned!
